Earlier this month, longtime ICA Board Member Wil Hobbs shared this message with the ICA community. We're publishing it below for all to read.
Dear Friends and Supporters,
I believe that small businesses have the power to transform lives and communities. But too many entrepreneurs – especially entrepreneurs of color – face big obstacles to accessing the capital and support they need. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, these businesses need our help to survive and thrive.
I am proud of ICA’s mission to provide local small businesses with essential coaching, capital, and connections.
ICA’s impact is clear: in 2019, the companies we supported employed 547 workers and paid nearly $16 million in wages – generating a ripple effect to drive economic activity and opportunity in communities that need it most. More than 70% offered health benefits to their employees, and 89% provided career ladder opportunities. Three-quarters of these companies are led by entrepreneurs of color and/or women.
It is a privilege and an honor, for 10-years and counting, to be part of ICA. I support ICA because I know my gift makes a difference for Bay Area entrepreneurs and their employees.
Every $1 you donate today helps generate over $6 in employee wages. Whether you give $100 or $1,000, you can help accelerate great small businesses as we build an economy that works for all. Will you join me?
Wishing you health and happiness during these difficult times.
Sincerely,
Wil Hobbs
